Sabres Development Coach Arrested for DWI with Children in Car

The Buffalo Sabres have suspended Adam Mair, their player developmental coach, following reports of his arrest on a drunk driving charge in which three children were found in his car. The incident occurred in suburban Rochester, New York, on September 4 when Mair allegedly rear-ended another vehicle. Court records revealed that Mair, 46, is facing multiple felonies and misdemeanors, including aggravated driving while intoxicated with a child present and endangering the welfare of a child.

Although the Sabres acknowledged the situation, they refrained from providing further comments. According to WGRZ-TV Buffalo, a police report indicated that law enforcement officers detected a strong smell of alcohol on Mair’s breath, with bloodshot and glassy eyes. Mair reportedly initially refused to undergo a chemical breath test at the police station but later changed his mind. His blood alcohol content was recorded at 0.2%, exceeding the legal limit of 0.08%.

Mair, a former NHL center known for his physical play, had an 11-season career in the league, notably spending seven seasons with the Sabres. He also played for the Toronto Maple Leafs, New Jersey Devils, and Los Angeles Kings before retiring in 2012 after a stint in the minors. Mair joined the Sabres as a developmental coach in 2015.

Before his professional career, Mair played for the Ohsweken Golden Eagles in the Midwestern Junior B Hockey League during the 1994-95 season and later moved on to the Owen Sound Platers in the Ontario Hockey League. The development coach’s leave coincided with the commencement of a prospects tournament hosted by Buffalo, involving teams from four other NHL franchises. The Sabres are gearing up to kick off their training camp next week.
