“AFC Toronto Thrashes Vancouver Rise 7-0”

Esther Okoronkwo and Kaylee Hunter both netted two goals each as AFC Toronto scored four times in the second half to defeat Vancouver Rise 7-0 in a Northern Super League soccer match on Saturday.

Adding to Toronto’s tally were Kaela Hansen, Sarah Stratigakis, and Jade Kovacevic. Toronto (13-6-2) extended their lead in the league standings to nine points over Vancouver and Montreal.

Goalkeeper Sierra Cota-Yarde kept a clean sheet for Toronto, who outshot Vancouver 15-1 on target.

Prior to this match, Vancouver Rise had been on a four-game winning streak and unbeaten in their last eight games.

Roses Secure Second Place with Victory over Wild

Montreal jumped from fourth to second place by defeating the Wild 5-0 later on Saturday in Calgary.

Both the Roses and the Rise now have 32 points with records of 9-6-5, but Montreal holds a superior goal difference (plus-9 compared to plus-3) following the weekend’s decisive outcomes.

Scoring for Montreal were Stephanie Hill, Claire Monyard, Tanya Boychuk, Noemi Paquin, and Lorie Thibault.

The Wild’s record dropped to 6-12-2 after the loss.
