“Canada Soccer’s Canada Rising Campaign Targets $25M Goal”

Canada Soccer aims to raise $25 million by 2027 to support the growth of soccer in the nation. The initiative, known as Canada Rising, is a new campaign by the Canada Soccer Foundation. The funds generated will be directed towards enhancing the national team system, coaching development, and youth programs to promote wider access to soccer.

Kevin Blue, the CEO and general secretary of Canada Soccer, emphasized that while the organization is exploring various revenue streams, Canada Rising is a strategic move to raise awareness and financial support through philanthropy. Blue highlighted the long-term vision of this initiative, stating that it is crucial for sustaining non-profit sports organizations in Canada, especially amid uncertainties in government funding matching the sport’s expansion.

With more than $11 million already secured in donations and commitments, including over $1.5 million from the CanadaRed supporters program, Canada Soccer is making significant progress towards its fundraising goal. The revamped CanadaRed program offers different membership tiers, ranging from free to $5,000 annually, providing members access to tickets for Canadian matches at the 2026 World Cup.

The funds raised through CanadaRed will contribute to the development of the national team system, support coach education, and facilitate youth soccer programs. Over 77,000 Canadians have joined CanadaRed since its relaunch in July, reflecting strong community support for the initiative.

Canada Soccer reported a revenue of $37.6 million for the year ending in 2024, with a portion coming from FIFA, CONCACAF, and government grants. Despite investing $21.1 million in national teams, the organization ended the year with a deficit of $4 million. Major donations are channeled to the Canada Soccer Foundation, an independent charitable entity governed separately from Canada Soccer.

The governing body lauded the dual-tiered fundraising model, citing its alignment with successful practices in the U.S. and Canada. This approach enhances donor fund oversight and broadens participation from individuals with diverse expertise and networks, fostering greater support for soccer development.

In a related endeavor, Rugby Canada launched Mission: Win Rugby World Cup 2025 to raise funds for the ongoing Women’s World Cup in England. The initiative has achieved 95% of its $1-million target, addressing the financial gap identified for tournament preparations. The Canadian team, ranked second globally, is set to face off against New Zealand in the World Cup semifinals on Friday.
