Liverpool Football Club has confirmed that the Football Association is looking into reported discriminatory comments attributed to a goalkeeper in the women’s team. The alleged remarks by Rafaela Borggräfe were reportedly overheard by teammates and staff during a team photo session, as per Britain’s PA News agency. In response to inquiries regarding the situation involving Borggräfe, Liverpool Women issued a statement acknowledging awareness of alleged discriminatory language used by a player. The club stated that it has fully adhered to its protocols by reporting the incident to the FA, which is now conducting an investigation with Liverpool’s cooperation. The club emphasized its stance against all forms of discrimination, emphasizing that such behavior has no place in football or society. Due to the ongoing investigation, Liverpool refrained from providing further comments.
Borggräfe, 25, has not yet played for Liverpool since joining the Women’s Super League club from Freiburg in July on a free transfer. She was not included in the squad for Liverpool’s initial league match, a 4-1 loss to Everton, but has since resumed training with the team. Although she was on the bench as an unused substitute in the 1-0 loss to Leicester, Borggräfe is expected to be available when Liverpool faces Aston Villa on September 21.
