“Bad Bunny Claps Back at Critics Over Super Bowl Performance”

Bad Bunny clapped back at critics who expressed discontent over his upcoming performance at the Super Bowl halftime show. The Puerto Rican rapper, renowned for hits like “Soy Peor” and his collaboration with Cardi B on “I Like It,” was revealed as the halftime show headliner last week. Making history by delivering his performance entirely in Spanish, Bad Bunny’s cultural milestone has sparked backlash from some conservative circles.

In a light-hearted manner during his opening monologue as host of the latest season premiere of Saturday Night Live, the music sensation humorously mentioned, “I think everybody is happy about it — even Fox News,” in reference to his halftime show selection. He proceeded to express Latino pride and joy in Spanish, challenging those who didn’t understand to learn the language within the four months leading up to the show.

Bad Bunny has been vocal about criticizing U.S. President Donald Trump’s immigration policies in the past. Notably, he posted an Instagram video in June condemning federal agents in Puerto Rico. His concern for potential ICE actions led him to exclude the U.S. from his most recent world tour out of fear that ICE officials might target immigrants attending his shows.

Addressing inquiries from conservative podcaster Benny Johnson, Homeland Security Secretary Kristi Noem affirmed that ICE officials would be present at the Super Bowl to ensure security. Noem emphasized the importance of law-abiding Americans attending the event, without specifying whether ICE would focus on immigration enforcement or other typical law enforcement responsibilities.

Conservative commentators, including Johnson and others, criticized the selection of Bad Bunny for the Super Bowl performance, labeling it as divisive and problematic. Some suggested alternative choices like rock band Creed or Kid Rock, a known Trump supporter, would have been more suitable for the event. The controversial decision also prompted jokes on SNL about ICE agents at the Super Bowl following Bad Bunny’s involvement.

Critics’ responses ranged from labeling Bad Bunny as “demonic” to advocating for different performers. Noem’s stance on the situation even led to a humorous reference on SNL’s Weekend Update segment.
