Leylah Fernandez advances to Japan Open semifinals

Canada’s Leylah Fernandez has advanced to the semifinals of the Japan Open tennis tournament. Fernandez secured a victory over Slovakia’s Rebecca Sramkova with a score of 7-6 (2), 6-3 during the quarterfinal match held on Thursday. The tennis player from Laval, Quebec, recorded one ace and three double faults while successfully breaking her opponent’s serve on four out of nine opportunities.

Sramkova, who also managed one ace, struggled with seven double faults and only converted two out of three break-point chances. Fernandez is set to compete against the winner of the match between Switzerland’s Viktorija Golubic and Romania’s Sorana Cirstea in the upcoming round.
