It was an ordinary Monday evening at Le Violon, a quaint fine-dining spot in Le Plateau, Montreal, until a former prime minister and a popular singer made an unexpected entrance.
Danny Smiles, a partner and head chef at the restaurant, expressed surprise at Justin Trudeau and Katy Perry’s spontaneous July dinner date, which garnered significant global attention and sparked conversations among patrons.
Reflecting on the visit, Smiles, a former contestant on Top Chef Canada and co-owner of one of the most acclaimed eateries in Canada, feared that the celebrity visit, while pleasant, might overshadow the restaurant’s overall reputation.
As Smiles prepares to attend the 15th annual Devour food and film festival in Wolfville, N.S., next week, he anticipates showcasing his culinary skills alongside other Montreal chefs, with a particular focus on seafood sourced from Nova Scotia.
Having participated in the festival in 2017, Smiles looks forward to returning for the upcoming event, emphasizing the beauty and sense of community in Wolfville.
During the festival, he will participate in the Montreal Night Market, lead a culinary workshop, and collaborate with four other prominent chefs from Montreal for a special degustation dinner featuring a tasting menu complemented by wine pairings and a screening of food-themed short films.
The festival, scheduled to run from October 20 to 26, promises a unique culinary experience for attendees.
