Cricket Canada’s chief executive officer, Salman Khan, has been suspended with immediate effect, although he will continue to receive full pay and benefits during this period. The decision was made to uphold the organization’s integrity and ensure fairness in procedures, as stated by Cricket Canada president Amjad Bajwa. Khan, along with another individual, faced charges of theft and fraud over $5,000 related to their involvement with the Calgary and District Cricket League back in March. Despite Khan’s denial of the allegations on social media through the Alberta Cricket Association, the suspension was deemed necessary due to the negative impact associated with his involvement.
While the charges against Khan have not been proven in court, they have prompted Cricket Canada to conduct a comprehensive review with the assistance of an independent special committee and external legal advisors. The organization reiterated its commitment to its vision, mission, players, and the broader Canadian cricket community. Additionally, Cricket Canada faced a suspension from the Canadian Safe Sport Program for failing to meet participant e-learning and consent requirements, but has since been reinstated after fulfilling the necessary criteria according to the Canadian Centre for Ethics in Sport.
