“Ticketmaster Faces Class-Action Lawsuit Over Service Fees”

The Quebec Superior Court has granted permission for a class-action lawsuit against Ticketmaster alleging excessive service fees on ticket sales. Justice Eleni Yiannakis ruled that the plaintiffs have met the requirements for a full trial and could receive compensatory refunds if successful. The lawsuit, initiated by Montreal law firm Paquette Gadler, argues that Ticketmaster’s service fees violate Quebec’s Consumer Protection Act and Civil Code by not reflecting the actual service costs but rather fluctuating with ticket prices. Filed in August 2024 by plaintiff Felipe Morales, the class action represents Quebec residents who purchased tickets through Ticketmaster for North American events since July 2021. Ticketmaster, a global ticket seller for various events, including concerts and sports, has not yet commented on the court’s decision.
