Endling narrates the lives of three women impacted by Russia’s invasion of Ukraine. Yeva, a scientist, delves into breeding rare snails while financing her research through dating Westerners on romance tours. Sisters Nastia and Solomiya, involved in the marriage industry, seek answers about their mother’s disappearance. As the war unfolds, their plans are disrupted, exposing the harsh realities of conflict.
Originally from Ukraine, Maria Reva grew up in New Westminster, B.C., where she resides. Her collection of short stories, Good Citizens Need Not Fear, secured the 2022 Kobzar Literary Award and was shortlisted for the 2020 Writers’ Trust Fiction Prize. Her debut novel, Endling, made it to the longlist of the 2025 Booker Prize and was a finalist for the Atwood Gibson Writers’ Trust Fiction Prize. Reva is also a judge for the 2026 CBC Short Story Prize.
