A doll resembling the famous character Anne of Green Gables has garnered attention on social media, with some jokingly referring to it as “Anne of Scream Gables.” The doll, sporting distinctive red braids and intense eyes, was discovered in a Cape Breton thrift store and shared on the Facebook group ThriftStore and GoodwillFind.
The doll, priced at $19.99, was described in a humorous post inviting potential buyers who are up for a scare. However, Andrew Danylewich, a resident of Nova Scotia, recognized the doll as a creation by his late mother, Heather Danylewich, who was an artist known for her fabric sculptures.
Heather Danylewich specialized in crafting large fabric pieces, such as murals and three-dimensional sculptures. Her son, Andrew, identified the doll as a piece likely created to commemorate the 75th anniversary of the classic novel “Anne of Green Gables.” Despite the doll’s comical appearance, Andrew fondly recalls his mother’s unique artistic style and hopes to locate and display the Anne sculpture at his Liverpool-based gallery.
While the doll has since disappeared from the thrift store, Andrew remains optimistic about finding it. He acknowledges the amusement generated by the doll’s appearance but emphasizes the sentimental value it holds for him. Andrew believes that the doll’s smile mirrors his mother’s own, making it a cherished piece of her artistic legacy.
With a desire to reunite with this significant artwork, Andrew Danylewich hopes that the Anne of Green Gables doll will be appreciated by whoever currently possesses it, reflecting the enduring impact of his mother’s creative talent.
