“Heated Rivalry” Breaks Records as Global Fan Favorite

The Canadian television series “Heated Rivalry” has been garnering a global fanbase, with Culture Minister Marc Miller praising it as a triumph of Canadian content. Based on romance novels by Nova Scotia author Rachel Reid, the Crave original show revolves around a love story between professional hockey players from rival teams.

Minister Miller expressed his enthusiasm for the series, highlighting its engaging storyline and its role in challenging stereotypes. Featuring a talented Canadian cast, including writer-director Jacob Tierney and actors Hudson Williams, François Arnaud, and Sophie Nelisse, “Heated Rivalry” has captured attention both in Canada and internationally.

The show, predominantly filmed in Toronto and Hamilton, also showcases aspects of English and French culture in Montreal and features a score composed by Quebec musician Peter Peter. Boasting record viewership for a Crave Original series debut, “Heated Rivalry” has inspired various events nationwide, such as dance parties, trivia nights, viewing parties, and improv comedy shows.

Minister Miller noted that the series celebrates hockey as a source of Canadian pride while addressing taboo issues within the sport, particularly resonating with the 2SLGBTQ+ community. Describing the show as “racy,” Miller acknowledged its broad appeal and the conversations it has sparked.

Renewed for another season, “Heated Rivalry” is set to incorporate Ottawa into its storyline. Ottawa Tourism has already embraced the show, declaring the city as the “birthplace of Shane Hollander,” a key character. The series’ success has been lauded for its deep-rooted Canadian elements, reinforcing the country’s cultural identity.

During a visit to Dark Slope Studios in Scarborough, Minister Miller and Member of Parliament Rob Oliphant explored the show’s production process. Oliphant praised Canada’s potential as a cultural leader and commended the series for its quality and representation. The government’s investment in the show was deemed fruitful, with Miller emphasizing its significant impact on Canadian content creation.

As “Heated Rivalry” continues to captivate audiences, Minister Miller hopes it will raise awareness of the vibrant Canadian entertainment industry, encouraging support for local productions and showcasing the country’s rich cultural heritage.
