Tragic Shooting in Brampton Plaza: Woman Fatally Shot by Ex-Partner

When Savannah Rose Kulla-Davies left to meet her former partner, her father was unaware it would be their final encounter. Expressing deep sorrow in an interview with CBC Toronto, he lamented missing her greatly and anticipated a prolonged grieving period.

Tragedy struck as Kulla-Davies, aged 29, was fatally shot at a Brampton, Ont., plaza by her ex-partner, Anthony Deschepper, 38. Following the shooting, Deschepper abducted their 17-month-old daughter, triggering an Amber Alert. Subsequently, he was shot by police at a gas station in Niagara Falls, Ont.

The day leading up to the incident seemed routine, according to Davies. Kulla-Davies stopped by Starbucks before heading to the Brampton plaza to meet Deschepper, as shared by her brother, Spencer Porter. The plaza now serves as a tribute site with flowers in her honor.

Her motive for meeting Deschepper was to facilitate their daughter’s reunion with him, as revealed by her father. Davies remarked on Kulla-Davies’s compassionate nature, emphasizing her willingness to ensure her daughter had contact with her father despite their separation.

Known for her love of dance and prior work as a social worker for Peel Region, Kulla-Davies transitioned into motherhood with zeal, raising four children with dedication. Her family, planning to petition for guardianship of her youngest child, emphasized her devotion to motherhood.

Deschepper’s history of firearm charges, with Kulla-Davies as the complainant in a 2023 Brampton incident, sheds light on the tumultuous relationship. Legal documents detailed Deschepper’s prior firearm violations and the delayed handling of the case before the fatal altercation.

Expressing regret over the lack of insight into Kulla-Davies’s relationship with Deschepper, her father lamented the tragic outcome and criticized the system’s failure to prevent such incidents. Deschepper’s death is under investigation by the Special Investigations Unit of Ontario.

Mayor Patrick Brown’s call for stricter bail regulations following Deschepper’s demise highlighted the need for enhanced legal measures, coinciding with proposed legislative changes to the Criminal Code. The community mourns the loss of Kulla-Davies, with her brother asserting that she did not deserve the tragic fate that befell her.
