“China Showcases Leading Role in Humanoid Robot Innovation”

China’s highly anticipated annual CCTV Spring Festival gala highlighted the nation’s advanced industrial strategy and Beijing’s ambition to lead in humanoid robots and future manufacturing. The event featured demonstrations from four emerging humanoid robot startups – Unitree Robotics, Galbot, Noetix, and MagicLab, showcasing their innovative products. The gala, akin to the Super Bowl in the United States, showcased humanoid robots in various performances, including a martial arts display by Unitree humanoids and a synchronized dance by MagicLab robots.

The program also featured Bytedance’s AI chatbot Doubao and humor skits involving Noetix humanoid robots alongside human actors. The excitement around China’s humanoid robot industry is heightened as major players like AgiBot and Unitree gear up for potential initial public offerings. Last year’s gala amazed audiences with a performance by 16 full-size Unitree humanoids, leading to the founder meeting President Xi Jinping at a tech summit.

President Xi’s engagement with robotics startup founders reflects the sector’s growing prominence, similar to his interactions with electric vehicle and semiconductor entrepreneurs. China’s focus on humanoid robots aligns with its AI+ manufacturing vision, leveraging automation to counter workforce challenges. The country’s dominance in humanoid robot shipments, accounting for 90% of global deliveries last year, demonstrates its leadership in the sector. Analysts project significant growth in China’s humanoid robot sales, with Elon Musk acknowledging Chinese companies as formidable competitors in the AI space.
