“Regina to Host 2027 Grey Cup Indoors with Warm Welcome”

The Grey Cup game is set to make a return to Regina in 2027, marking the second time in five years that the CFL final will be hosted in the capital city and home of the Saskatchewan Roughriders.

During the announcement on Monday, Premier Scott Moe emphasized the opportunity in 2027 to showcase the strong fan base and community pride in Saskatchewan for their football team.

Craig Reynolds, the president of the Saskatchewan Roughriders, attributed the successful bid for the 2027 Grey Cup to the support from the City of Regina and the province. He expressed confidence in the province’s ability to host the event effectively, stating, “In Saskatchewan, we know how to do Grey Cups right.”

Regina Mayor Chad Bachynski’s spokesperson revealed that the City of Regina has allocated $1.5 million for the Grey Cup, covering cash and in-kind contributions such as transit shuttle services and police support. Bachynski assured that whether one is a dedicated fan or a first-time visitor, they will be welcomed like family in Regina during the 2027 Grey Cup.

The 2027 Grey Cup, scheduled for November 7, will be the fifth championship held in Regina and the second at the modern Mosaic Stadium. The Roughriders have previously hosted the Grey Cup four times, with the most recent occasion being in 2022.

Notably, the 2027 Grey Cup festival will be entirely hosted indoors for the first time, including the street festival, allowing attendees to enjoy the event without worrying about the cold weather. CFL Commissioner Stewart Johnston praised the bid from the Saskatchewan Roughriders, highlighting the strong collaboration between the team, the province, the City of Regina, and local hotel operators.

Johnston commended the quality and thoughtfulness of the bid, emphasizing the deep-rooted football culture in Saskatchewan. While the CFL does not disclose other bidding teams, Johnston acknowledged that Saskatchewan’s bid was truly exceptional.
