A former Saskatoon police officer who was dismissed in September following an off-duty gathering has now been charged with assault. Dylan Kemp was taken into custody, charged, and subsequently released, as per a statement by the Saskatchewan Serious Incident Response Team (SIRT). The incident is set to be addressed in Saskatoon provincial court on Nov. 27.
While SIRT did not disclose the officer’s name, various sources have confirmed his identity to CBC. The agency’s involvement stemmed from a Saskatoon police internal review of a party that occurred last autumn. SIRT focuses on cases involving potential serious harm or death while in police custody, actions by police officers, or allegations of police-related sexual assault or violence, according to its official website.
After a year-long investigation, SIRT found reasonable grounds to believe that an offense had taken place. The incident in question involved a social gathering hosted by a member of the Emergency Response Team, known as the tactical team, on Aug. 28. At this event, Dylan Kemp, who was the host, was accused of physically assaulting a female junior officer, who is now the complainant in the assault case against Kemp.
Allegations also surfaced that a member of an outlaw motorcycle gang attended the party, potentially compromising police undercover operations. Although Saskatoon Police Chief Cameron McBride stated that he did not believe any undercover activities were compromised, the police service has since updated its conflict of interest policy to prohibit officers from associating with individuals deemed “undesirable” and posing a risk to the officer or the police service.
All three dismissed officers are currently appealing their termination. In May 2025, Kemp and another fired officer, Jason Garland, launched a podcast titled “The Quiet Fight,” addressing the challenges faced by law enforcement officers. Despite not disclosing their identities as Saskatoon police officers on the show and starting the podcast while on suspension and under investigation, the podcast has garnered a following with 254 subscribers on YouTube and 19 episodes available on Spotify.
