The final determinant for Auger-Aliassime’s participation rested on the outcome of the Hellenic Championship tennis final featuring Novak Djokovic of Serbia and Lorenzo Musetti of Italy. Djokovic, already destined for the prestigious eight-player event, overcame Musetti in a hard-fought match, clinching his 101st ATP title and a groundbreaking 72nd hard court title. Despite this victory, Djokovic’s unfortunate withdrawal from the ATP Finals in Turin due to a shoulder injury paved the way for Musetti to replace him at the tournament.
Musetti, initially needing a win to qualify over Auger-Aliassime, will now step into Djokovic’s spot at the event, joining a lineup that includes Spain’s Carlos Alcaraz, Italy’s Jannik Sinner, Taylor Fritz and Ben Shelton from the United States, Australia’s Alex de Minaur, and Germany’s Alexander Zverev. The ATP Finals are set to unfold from Sunday through Nov. 16.
In his first group-stage encounter on Monday, Auger-Aliassime is slated to face Sinner, the reigning world No. 1 player. Their previous clash at the Paris Open final saw Sinner emerge victorious with a 6-4, 7-6 (4) triumph, reclaiming the top-ranking position.
