A former employee of Beast Industries has taken legal action against MrBeast’s media production company, alleging wrongful termination after returning from maternity leave. Lorrayne Mavromatis filed a lawsuit in a North Carolina federal court, claiming that her dismissal violated laws protecting employees’ rights to unpaid, job-protected leave for childbirth and medical reasons.
Additionally, Mavromatis lodged a complaint with the U.S. Equal Employment Opportunity Commission, citing discrimination based on gender, pregnancy, and retaliation. She asserted that she worked tirelessly even after giving birth, recounting instances such as being in the delivery room while still bleeding and having to return to work shortly after.
Less than three weeks after resuming full-time work, Mavromatis claimed she was terminated. In response, a spokesperson for Beast Industries dismissed the lawsuit as a “clout-chasing complaint,” stating that Mavromatis’s position was eliminated during a team restructuring.
The lawsuit has once again put the spotlight on the internal culture at Beast Industries, the media empire associated with YouTube star MrBeast. The company has faced scrutiny over its workplace environment, with recent efforts to address issues as it expands into new ventures like television and financial services.
Amidst these developments, MrBeast himself has ventured beyond YouTube, making appearances in mainstream entertainment and business endeavors. Beast Industries, with around 700 employees, is actively recruiting new talent to diversify and grow beyond its founder’s influence.
Mavromatis’s legal action coincides with a high-profile event in New York City honoring MrBeast as one of Time100’s most influential people. The lawsuit sheds light on the intense work environment at Beast Industries, citing a company guide that encouraged employees to go to great lengths to fulfill their duties.
Allegations of a toxic workplace culture come against the backdrop of efforts by the company to address past controversies and create a safer and more inclusive environment for its employees. The legal dispute underscores broader concerns about workplace harassment and the need for greater accountability in addressing such issues.
