“Alberta Premier Demands Action from PM Carney”

Alberta Premier Danielle Smith is set to restate her policy demands directly to Prime Minister Mark Carney during his visit to Edmonton to convene with his Liberal caucus on Wednesday. Smith, speaking on her radio show over the weekend, emphasized the need for tangible progress on nine federal policies that she believes have negatively impacted Alberta’s economy and its vital oil and gas sector.

Among her requests are the elimination of the greenhouse gas emissions cap and a revision of Bill C-69, which her government has dubbed the “no more pipelines act.” Smith has emphasized that Carney must either revoke or significantly amend these policies to stimulate economic growth.

In anticipation of the upcoming federal election, Smith has cautioned about a potential “unprecedented national unity crisis” if her demands are not addressed within the next six months. She intends to convey the same message to the prime minister as she did during their initial meeting in March, expressing hope for concrete actions from Carney by the year’s end.
