Josh Ross from Ontario and Cameron Whitcomb, known from American Idol, emerged as prominent winners at the latest Canadian Country Music Association Awards. Whitcomb, a breakout talent and former American Idol participant, clinched the breakthrough performer of the year award. His hit track, Quitter, resonated with the audience, addressing the challenges of addiction.
Expressing gratitude to his supporters for aiding his recovery journey, Whitcomb also secured the prestigious fans’ choice award at the event in Kelowna, B.C. On the other hand, Ross, a country singer who transitioned from college football, snagged the entertainer of the year trophy, describing it as a deeply meaningful achievement.
Ross also celebrated winning the single of the year for his soulful track, Single Again, inspired by a real-life encounter with a former crush. Comedian Tom Green hosted the show, adding his unique flair to the event, which marked the third time the awards were held in B.C.
Additionally, notable winners included Jade Eagleson from Ontario as the male artist of the year, MacKenzie Porter from Alberta as the best female artist for the second consecutive year, and Owen Riegling from Ontario for the album of the year with his debut record, Bruce County (From The Beginning). The evening also featured special appearances by hockey players Jordin Tootoo and Shea Weber, adding to the star-studded event.
