The Mariners initially took the lead with a solo home run by Josh Naylor, but Toronto quickly responded with three runs in the third inning and two more in the fourth, establishing a 5-1 lead by the midway point of the game.
Andrés Giménez of the Blue Jays launched a two-run homer for the second consecutive night, kickstarting Toronto’s offensive onslaught. Vladimir Guerrero Jr. contributed with a solo home run in the seventh inning, followed by two more runs in the eighth inning to secure the win.
Veteran pitcher Max Scherzer delivered a commendable performance in his playoff debut for the Blue Jays, striking out five Mariners over nearly six innings. Blue Jays manager John Schneider praised Scherzer’s resilience and game management throughout the contest.
Despite a late run by Seattle in the sixth inning, Toronto’s bullpen led by Louis Varland, Jeff Hoffman, and Seranthony Domínguez shut down the Mariners’ offense to seal the victory. Addison Barger’s exceptional defensive plays, including a crucial diving catch, bolstered Toronto’s performance.
The win evens the series between the Blue Jays and the Mariners, setting the stage for an intense Game 5. Toronto will send Kevin Gausman to the mound, while Seattle will counter with Bryce Miller. The series, now guaranteed to go to at least six games, will culminate in Game 6 at Toronto’s Rogers Centre.
The ALCS winner will advance to the World Series, facing the victor of the National League Championship Series. Toronto eyes its first World Series appearance in over 30 years, while Seattle aims for its inaugural Fall Classic berth.
