Stephen Eustaquio will be absent from Canada’s upcoming match against Wales due to a lower-body injury sustained during the friendly match against Romania. Canada Soccer confirmed that the 28-year-old midfielder has departed from the Canadian camp to undergo further assessment at his Portuguese club, FC Porto.
Eustaquio, who served as captain for the No. 28 Canada team, played the full duration of the game in their 3-0 victory over No. 48 Romania in Bucharest, earning his 51st cap.
In addition to Eustaquio, Canada is already dealing with absences from injured players such as Alphonso Davies, Moise Bombito, Alistair Johnston, Sam Adekugbe, Liam Millar, and Daniel Jebbison. Cyle Larin also missed the Romania match as he awaited the birth of his child.
However, there is a positive development as Jacob Shaffelburg is set to make a return from suspension for the upcoming match against Wales in Swansea, who are ranked 31st in the world.
