Canada Secures Top Spot in Women’s Rugby World Cup Pool

Canada emerged victorious in Pool B at the Women’s Rugby World Cup by defeating Scotland 40-19 in Exeter, England. This win secured Canada’s top spot and helped them avoid a potential quarterfinal match against favorites England. Scotland, already guaranteed a spot in the last eight, is now poised to face England in the quarterfinals if England triumphs over Australia later in the day.

Despite Scotland dominating possession, Canada, ranked second, faced a resilient challenge from their opponents. Canada’s Emily Tuttosi scored two tries, supported by McKinley Hunt, Brittany Kassil, Olivia DeMerchant, and a penalty try. Meanwhile, Scotland’s Rhona Lloyd, Evie Gallagher, and Fran McGhie added to the scoreline with their tries.

The day’s fixtures also included Fiji vs. Wales in a match where both teams had already been eliminated. In another Pool A match, the United States clashed with Samoa in York, while England squared off against Australia. The outcome of the latter match would determine the standings, with a potential tiebreaker scenario if Australia fails to secure a bonus point and the U.S. wins with a bonus point.

The Women’s Rugby World Cup continues to showcase thrilling encounters as teams vie for a spot in the knockout stages.
