Canadian Tire Corp. Ltd. has revealed a data breach involving customer personal data stored in an e-commerce database. The compromised information pertains to individuals who had e-commerce accounts with Canadian Tire, SportChek, Mark’s/L’Equipeur, and Party City. Data exposed in the breach includes names, addresses, emails, birth years, encrypted passwords, and partially visible credit card numbers. Approximately 150,000 account holders had their full birth dates compromised. Canadian Tire has assured that the breached information is insufficient to access accounts and conduct transactions, and there was no impact on in-store purchases. The company has addressed the security vulnerability discovered on October 2 and is collaborating with cybersecurity experts to bolster its security measures.
