The Canadian women’s 3×3 basketball squad secured their third consecutive victory at the FIBA Women’s Series Final held in Shanghai. In an intense matchup against Azerbaijan, the team comprising Paige Crozon from Humboldt, Sask., Katherine Plouffe from Edmonton, Saicha Grant-Allen from Hamilton, and Cassandra Brown from Vernon, B.C., emerged triumphant with a final score of 21-12 in the 2025 championship.
Paige Crozon showcased her prowess by leading the team with nine points, making all her shots count from the two-point range. Cassandra Brown contributed with six points, including the game-winning shot, while Katherine Plouffe’s solid performance included five rebounds and three points.
Canada dominated the game early on, establishing a commanding 10-2 lead with accurate shooting from the two-point line. Despite strong efforts from Azerbaijan’s Alexandra Mollenhauer and Brianna Fraser, Canada maintained their lead and clinched the victory.
The Canadian team secured their spot in the semifinals by winning two out of three pool matches, including a 21-11 triumph over Spain. In the opener, they defeated Azerbaijan 21-13, suffered a close 16-15 loss to CS Rapid, and bounced back with a 17-9 victory against the Netherlands’ under-25 team.
Having previously claimed consecutive titles in 2022 and 2023, Canada regained their championship status after finishing third in the previous season. The team’s impressive performance in the final and throughout the tournament showcased their skill and determination on the court.
