Curling Icon Brad Gushue Announces Retirement

Newfoundland and Labrador’s Brad Gushue, a prominent curler with a distinguished career that includes two Olympic medals and numerous national championships, has declared his retirement from competitive curling at the conclusion of the upcoming season. Gushue shared his decision through a social media video, expressing a desire to prioritize family time and having achieved his athletic objectives.

The 45-year-old athlete, a six-time Brier champion, has an extensive history in the sport, having participated in 21 Briers representing Team Newfoundland and Labrador, Team Canada, and as a wild card entrant. Additionally, Gushue has secured five medals at the World Men’s Curling Championship and boasts a remarkable tally of 15 Grand Slam titles.

Gushue’s notable achievements include claiming Olympic Gold in 2006 and a Bronze medal in 2022. Currently leading a team with Geoff Walker, Brendan Bottcher, and Mark Nichols, the seasoned curler expressed his eagerness to remain connected to the curling community and explore new ventures beyond the ice. The team is scheduled to address the media on Thursday at 2 p.m. NT.

The final chapter of Gushue’s Brier career will unfold in St. John’s, commencing on February 27, marking the end of an era for one of curling’s most decorated athletes.
