“Fish Falls from Sky, Shatters Car Windshield in Saskatchewan”

A surprising incident occurred in Saskatchewan when a fish fell from the sky and shattered a car windshield. Marie Ahlstrom, the driver, noticed the fish scales’ impression on the windshield but fortunately remained unharmed. Initially mistaking it for a rock impact, she later discovered the fish remnants, which had also damaged the car’s side mirror.

When Ahlstrom tried to claim the wildlife collision under her insurance, she faced some confusion as one adjuster questioned whether a fish could be considered wildlife. However, the issue was eventually resolved. While uncommon, falling fish incidents have been reported in the Turtle Lake area before. Local birds, like ospreys, sometimes drop fish they cannot carry, leading to such occurrences.

Prairie naturalist Trevor Herriot suggested that a bald eagle might have been responsible for dropping the fish, as they are skilled fishers. Another explanation involving a water spout from the lake was considered unlikely due to the weather conditions at the time. Despite the unusual event, Ahlstrom found humor in the situation, describing it as either an act of wildlife, God, or fear that startled her.

While the cause of the fish falling remains a mystery, the incident left Ahlstrom surprised but unharmed, highlighting the unpredictability of nature.
