George Springer is expected to return to the Toronto Blue Jays’ lineup for Game 6 of the World Series on Friday. Blue Jays manager John Schneider mentioned that Springer has nearly met all the requirements to play in the crucial game against the Los Angeles Dodgers, with Toronto leading the series 3-2. Schneider emphasized the importance of Springer feeling confident and ready to compete throughout the game, not just for one at-bat. Despite being sidelined for the previous game due to a midsection strain from swinging at a pitch, Springer has been physically improving and is likely to make a comeback.
Schneider revealed that there was a possibility of Springer playing in Game 5 but ultimately decided to give him more rest. Springer has been a key player for the Blue Jays this season, hitting .309 with 32 home runs and 84 RBIs. Although he has been battling injuries from being hit by pitches, his postseason performance has been solid, with a .246 batting average, four home runs, and nine RBIs.
Both teams conducted optional workouts at Rogers Centre upon returning to Canada, with Schneider being the only Blue Jays member to hold a news conference. The Dodgers’ manager, Dave Roberts, is contemplating using Shohei Ohtani as an opener or even as an outfielder in a potential Game 7 if the series extends. Ohtani, known for his two-way skills, could be a valuable asset for the Dodgers in the upcoming games.
Roberts expressed his willingness to explore different strategies to secure a win, including utilizing Ohtani in various roles. Ohtani’s versatility as a pitcher and hitter adds an intriguing dynamic to the Dodgers’ lineup. The decision on Ohtani’s role in the upcoming games will be crucial for both teams as they aim to clinch the World Series title.
