Surrey police reported that Kap’s Cafe, owned by Indian celebrity Kapil Sharma, was once again targeted by gun violence, commonly associated with extortion. The incident occurred in the Newton area of the city, where the café, located on 120 Street, was damaged by bullets around 4 a.m. PT. Fortunately, no one was injured during the shooting, as staff members were present at the time.
Although the Surrey Police Service (SPS) has not officially confirmed the connection to extortion, spokesperson Ian MacDonald mentioned that the incident bears the hallmarks of such criminal activity. This marks the third shooting incident at Kap’s Cafe this year, following previous attacks in July and August.
MacDonald highlighted that an online video showing multiple shots being fired at the café and claims from individuals associated with the Bishnoi gang taking responsibility for the latest attack are under investigation. Despite these claims, MacDonald emphasized the need for concrete evidence to establish the facts regarding the shootings.
The café’s recurring targeting has raised concerns within the community, with local residents expressing sadness and frustration over the repeated violence. Mike Grieve, a frequent passerby, lamented the impact on the café’s owner and the surrounding area, emphasizing the need for increased security measures to ensure public safety.
The escalating violence in Surrey has prompted calls for action, with MLA Harman Bhangu and community members urging authorities to address the growing threat of gang-related activities. As investigations continue, police have urged anyone with relevant information or footage related to the shootings to come forward and assist in the ongoing inquiries.
