“Leaders Advocate for Gaza Peace at Trump Summit”

At a summit convened by U.S. President Donald Trump in Egypt, his delayed arrival allowed Prime Minister Mark Carney and other leaders to engage in discussions regarding the future of Gaza and broader peace prospects in the Middle East. The summit held in Sharm el-Sheikh saw leaders from various nations witnessing Trump sign a declaration alongside Turkey, Qatar, and Egypt, advocating for lasting peace and prosperity in the region.

Trump’s tardiness, caused by an extended visit to Jerusalem and a lengthy speech to the Israeli Knesset, led to light-hearted remarks about his delayed arrival. This delay prompted an impromptu meeting among the waiting leaders, including Carney, at the Sharm el-Sheikh International Convention Centre, enabling them to converse openly.

During this gathering, leaders explored ways their countries could provide assistance, with French President Emmanuel Macron proposing support for an international stabilization force for Gaza as part of Trump’s 20-point plan for the region. Carney emphasized the urgent need to expedite aid distribution to Gaza, mentioning Canada’s readiness to deliver supplies promptly, including leveraging existing programs like Operation Proteus.

There was a unanimous call for immediate action in delivering humanitarian aid to Gaza, emphasizing the necessity for visible improvements on the ground in the short term. Unlike typical summits where gradual progress is discussed, this meeting focused on urgent actions.

Regarding Trump’s unconventional communication style, leaders acknowledged a level of familiarity with his approach, recognizing his pivotal role in facilitating the summit. Leaders also emphasized the importance of keeping Trump engaged in the Middle East peace process, considering it crucial for progress.

The international summit saw representation from nearly 35 countries, with notable absence from Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu due to an approaching Jewish holiday. Following the summit, Carney expressed optimism on social media, highlighting the event as a significant step towards peace and security in the Middle East, emphasizing the swift delivery of life-saving aid.

The recent conflict initiated by Hamas in 2023 resulted in significant casualties and displacement in Gaza, underscoring the urgent need for humanitarian assistance in the region.
