RCMP officials have reported the passing of a man at an ostrich farm in British Columbia where demonstrators have been objecting to a proposed cull for several months. However, there is no indication of foul play in the man’s death.
The man was found unresponsive on the premises of the Universal Ostrich Farms protest camp in Edgewood, B.C. by a police liaison team on Monday. Despite immediate resuscitation efforts by officers and continued attempts by paramedics, the man could not be revived.
Authorities have identified the deceased individual but have yet to inform any next of kin as they continue their search. The Nakusp RCMP is collaborating with the B.C. Coroner’s Service in the ongoing investigation.
Social media platforms dedicated to the protest movement have been honoring the man, noting his prolonged presence at the camp. Meanwhile, the Supreme Court of Canada is scheduled to make a decision on Thursday regarding the farmers’ final appeal against the cull enforced by the Canadian Food Inspection Agency following an avian flu outbreak among the hundreds of ostriches.
