AFC Toronto’s Marko Milanovic has been awarded the title of coach of the year in the Northern Super League. Milanovic guided Toronto to the top spot in the league’s debut season, achieving a remarkable 16-6-3 record. Toronto accumulated 51 points, finishing a notable 12 points ahead of its closest rivals, Ottawa Rapid and Vancouver Rise, who both secured 39 points each.
The coach of the year recognition was determined through a vote by the six NSL coaches, with the rule that they could not vote for themselves. The voting methodology was akin to the players’ annual awards, where players vote for their fellow teammates.
Toronto dominated the six-team league in scoring, netting a total of 42 goals, and ranked second in goals conceded with 24, narrowly trailing behind Montreal.
Toronto will kick off the playoffs against Montreal on Saturday in the initial leg of the semifinals, while Ottawa will visit Vancouver on Tuesday.
Before his tenure at Toronto, Milanovic served over ten years coaching North Toronto Soccer, including steering the team in League1 Ontario. Additionally, he acted as an assistant coach at Toronto Metropolitan University.
