One Battle After Another emerged as the top contender in the 2026 Golden Globes film nominations unveiled in Beverly Hills, California. The TV categories saw The White Lotus and Adolescence receive significant recognition.
With nine nominations spanning various categories such as best score, best supporting male actor, best screenplay, and best director, Paul Thomas Anderson’s One Battle After Another established itself as the frontrunner. The film, featuring Leonardo DiCaprio as an ex-revolutionary in hiding with his daughter, has garnered critical acclaim, boasting a 94% rating on Rotten Tomatoes and 95% on Metacritic.
Sentimental Value followed closely with eight nominations, including nods for best motion picture and performances by Elle Fanning, Stellan Skarsgård, Renate Reinsve, and others. Additionally, Hamnet secured six nominations for its score, acting, and storyline.
Sinners, an action-horror hit, received seven nominations, including recognition for best cinematic achievement and best motion picture. Michael B. Jordan’s portrayal of twin brothers in the film also earned him a nomination.
The extensive list of nominations for these films comes as no surprise, given their previous success at various award shows and film festivals throughout the year. For instance, Sinners led the Critics’ Choice Awards with 17 nominations, and Hamnet clinched the 2025 People’s Choice Award at TIFF.
In the realm of television, The White Lotus led with six nominations, featuring performances by Walton Goggins, Carrie Coon, and Jason Isaacs. Similarly, Netflix’s Adolescence garnered nominations for Owen Cooper, Stephen Graham, and the show itself in the best limited series category.
Canadian talents also made their mark with nominations. Catherine O’Hara received a nod for best supporting performance in Apple TV’s comedy The Studio. Martin Short and Seth Rogen were nominated for their roles in Only Murders In The Building and The Studio, respectively.
Although Maggie Kang was not directly nominated, her film KPop Demon Hunters received three nominations.
The nominations coincide with a significant development in Hollywood as Netflix announced its intention to acquire Warner Bros. for $72 billion. This move faces competition from Paramount, which made a hostile bid of $108 billion.
Both Netflix and Warner Bros. have several contenders in the race, including blockbuster successes like One Battle After Another and Sinners. Netflix boasts 35 nominations, while Warner Bros. follows closely with 31.
Paramount’s sole nomination is for Mission: Impossible — The Final Reckoning in the best cinematic and box office achievement category.
Noteworthy nominations also include Guillermo del Toro’s Frankenstein with five nominations and Jafar Panahi’s It Was Just an Accident with four nominations.
Among the newly announced 28 Golden Globe categories is an award for the best podcast, with nominees such as Armchair Expert With Dax Shepard, Call Her Daddy, Good Hang With Amy Poehler, The Mel Robbins Podcast, SmartLess, and NPR’s Up First.
This addition aims to recognize diverse talents in the podcasting domain, aligning with the Golden Globes’ commitment to celebrating a wide spectrum of entertainment.
The Golden Globes, previously criticized for lack of diversity and ethical concerns related to the HFPA, have undergone restructuring efforts since the organization was disbanded in 2022. The awards have transitioned to a larger voting body and shifted from NBC to CBS for a more concise and cost-effective deal.
The upcoming 83rd Golden Globes on January 11 will be hosted by comedian Nikki Glaser, who expressed excitement about reprising her role as the host. Glaser previously hosted the awards in 2025 and looks forward to entertaining the audience once again.
