“Ontario to Ease Entry for Health-Care Professionals”

Ontario’s Labour Minister, David Piccini, plans to introduce new legislation next week aimed at simplifying the process for health-care professionals from other provinces to work in Ontario. The government has already granted permission for doctors, nurses, respiratory therapists, and medical lab technologists from other provinces and territories to practice immediately in Ontario while they complete registration with the relevant regulatory body in the province.

The upcoming legislation will extend these privileges to 16 additional health professions, including dentists, medical radiation and imaging technologists, midwives, optometrists, pharmacists, and psychologists. Health Minister Sylvia Jones highlighted that these changes will streamline procedures, reducing bureaucracy and enabling professionals to start providing care to Ontarians more expeditiously.

Furthermore, the government is collaborating with the College of Physicians and Surgeons of Ontario and the College of Nurses of Ontario to simplify the application process for doctors and nurses from other regions. This includes reducing application fees, simplifying documentation requirements, and expediting timelines for those seeking to work in Ontario.

Ontario has also implemented measures to facilitate the entry of American doctors and nurses into the province’s healthcare workforce.
