“PEI Fire Victim Wins Dream Cottage in Incredible Raffle”

A resident from western P.E.I. who lost his home in a fire recently had an unexpected stroke of luck by winning a raffle for a new cottage. Daniel Drouin from Alberton expressed his astonishment at the fortunate turn of events, which came at a crucial moment for him and his family.

Drouin, a musician, received the news of his raffle win while preparing for a performance, having purchased a $50 ticket for the Big Brothers, Big Sisters draw before the fire incident. Initially hesitant, he was encouraged by his girlfriend to participate. The grand prize winner, selected from around 14,000 tickets sold, could opt for a pre-fabricated cottage or $150,000 in cash.

In a heartwarming moment captured in a video by Big Brothers Big Sisters, Myron Yates, the executive director, notified Drouin of his win, leading to a mix of disbelief and joy for the lucky recipient. The cottage, although without land, presents an opportunity for Drouin to reunite with his children, who have been staying with friends and grandparents since the fire destroyed their home.

Despite the challenges faced, Drouin sees the new cottage as a fresh start for his family, offering a chance to rebuild and come together once again. Plans are underway for him to visit Charlottetown to inspect the new cottage and handle necessary arrangements, marking a hopeful beginning for their future.
