Phil Collins, Iron Maiden, Billy Idol, Queen Latifah, Oasis, Sade, and Joy Division/New Order are set to be added into the prestigious Rock & Roll Hall of Fame. This year’s inductees, which also include first-time nominees Wu-Tang Clan and the late Luther Vandross, were announced during the recent episode of American Idol. To qualify for induction, artists must have released their debut commercial recording at least 25 years before the ceremony. The final selection was made through voting by a panel consisting of over 1,200 artists, music historians, and industry professionals.
Renowned musician Phil Collins, who is already a member of the Hall of Fame as part of Genesis, secured his spot with hits like “In the Air Tonight” and “One More Night,” amassing eight Grammy awards, including Album of the Year in 1985 for “No Jacket Required.” Sade, known for soul-jazz, achieved fame with tracks like “Smooth Operator” and “The Sweetest Taboo.” The Wu-Tang Clan, recognized for their groundbreaking 1993 album “Enter the Wu-Tang (36 Chambers),” have been praised for their innovation in the rap genre.
Iron Maiden, a pivotal figure in the British heavy metal scene with iconic albums such as “The Number of the Beast,” earned their place after being nominated twice before. Luther Vandross, known for hits like “Here and Now” and “Any Love,” posthumously made it to the Hall of Fame after selling over 25 million records and influencing artists like Kendrick Lamar and SZA.
This year’s induction ceremony, scheduled for November 14 at the Peacock Theater in Los Angeles, will feature artists from Manchester, England, such as Joy Division and New Order, as well as the recently reunited Britpop band Oasis. Billy Idol, known for his punky pop hits like “White Wedding” and “Rebel Yell,” also joins the lineup.
Aside from the performer category, inductees will also be recognized under special committee categories, including early influence, musical excellence, and the Ahmet Ertegun Non-Performer Award. These special categories will honor influential figures like Queen Latifah, Celia Cruz, Fela Kuti, and others.
Legendary TV host Ed Sullivan will receive the Ahmet Ertegun Non-Performer Award posthumously for his significant contributions to the music industry, breaking racial barriers and showcasing numerous musical icons on his iconic TV show.
Unfortunately, artists like Mariah Carey, Lauryn Hill, and others who were nominated this year did not make it to the class of 2026. Last year’s inductees included renowned names like Cyndi Lauper, Outkast, and Soundgarden, among others. The ceremony will be aired on ABC and Disney+ in December, with plans to return to Cleveland for next year’s event.
