DâAngelo, the acclaimed R&B artist known for his distinctive raspy yet velvety vocals and iconic shirtless video for the song “Untitled (How Does It Feel),” has passed away at the age of 51.
The artist, born Michael Eugene Archer, succumbed on Tuesday, as confirmed by his family in an official statement. The family revealed that DâAngelo lost his battle with cancer, describing him as a beloved member whose radiance has now faded in their lives.
Fusing elements of hip-hop, soul, and gospel-inspired emotion, DâAngelo played a pivotal role in shaping the neo-soul movement of the 1990s through his music. Earlier this year, the artist from Virginia commemorated the 30th anniversary of his debut album “Brown Sugar,” a platinum-selling record that spawned hits like “Lady” and the titular track. The album, released in 1995, not only garnered numerous Grammy nominations but also solidified DâAngelo as a groundbreaking figure in the realm of R&B music.
