“Rogers Launches Satellite Text Service for Remote Areas”

Rogers Communications Inc. has introduced a novel satellite-to-mobile text messaging service, as part of its ongoing collaboration with SpaceX and Lynk Global aimed at achieving comprehensive satellite-to-phone coverage encompassing apps, data, and voice services. The newly launched Rogers Satellite text service, inclusive of text-to-911 functionality, is now accessible to all Canadians during a complimentary beta testing phase scheduled until October. Leveraging SpaceX’s Starlink low-earth orbit satellites and Rogers’ nationwide wireless spectrum, this technology seamlessly links cellphones in regions lacking traditional cellular coverage. Designed to facilitate connectivity in remote Canadian areas and rural highways, the initiative has been lauded by Rogers’ president and CEO Tony Staffieri as a significant advancement in wireless connectivity. Upon the conclusion of the trial period, Rogers Satellite will be integrated into the Rogers Ultimate plan without extra charges, with a standalone subscription available for all Canadians at $15 per month. Beta trial participants will benefit from a $5 monthly discount for a year.
