“Sandy Brondello Named Toronto Tempo’s Inaugural Head Coach”

Sandy Brondello is poised to take on the role as the inaugural head coach of the Toronto Tempo, as her contract with the New York Liberty was not extended following the recent season. Brondello guided the Liberty to their first WNBA title in 2024; however, the team faced challenges this season, resulting in a first-round playoff exit due to multiple injuries.

The seasoned coach was also considered for the head coach position with the Dallas Wings and the Seattle Storm. The announcement of her new role with the expansion team, the Tempo, was initially disclosed by The Next.

During her tenure with New York, Brondello achieved a remarkable record of 107-53 over four seasons, making her the winningest coach in Liberty history. Despite a strong start with nine consecutive victories, the team encountered difficulties as injuries plagued their performance throughout the season.

Prior to her time with the Liberty, Brondello steered the Phoenix Mercury to a championship during her eight-year stint with the franchise. She joined the Liberty in 2022 after assisting the Mercury in reaching the WNBA Finals in 2021.

After falling to Las Vegas in the 2023 finals, New York secured the championship last season with a thrilling Game 5 overtime triumph against Minnesota.
