“Saskatchewan Huskies Stage Epic Comeback to Secure Hardy Cup Win”

The University of Saskatchewan Huskies clinched a narrow 25-24 victory over the Regina Rams on Saturday, securing the Hardy Cup and avenging their 19-14 loss from the previous year. This 88th edition of the Hardy Cup featured only the second all-Saskatchewan championship match in over twenty years and marked the first consecutive provincial final between these two teams.

In a thrilling fourth quarter comeback, the Huskies rallied from a 24-9 deficit, scoring 16 unanswered points to claim the championship title. Kicker Lucas Scott sealed the victory with a crucial field goal, emphasizing its significance in the Huskies’ season.

Runningback Ryker Frank, a seasoned fifth-year player, attributed the team’s resilience to their second-half turnaround, highlighting the importance of faith and execution in critical moments. Head Coach Scott Flory commended the team’s focus and ability to deliver when it mattered most, despite facing challenges and turnovers during the game.

With this win, the Huskies are now one step closer to the Vanier Cup, set to take place in Regina later this month, a historic first for the city and Western Canada. Their upcoming challenge in the Mitchell Bowl against Queen’s University in Saskatchewan will test their work ethic and readiness for significant opportunities.

The Huskies, who previously claimed the Hardy Cup in 2021 and 2022 but fell short in the Vanier Cup both times, entered the postseason with an impressive 7-1 regular-season record, securing the top spot in the Canada West conference. On the other hand, the Rams advanced to the final after a thrilling double-overtime victory against the Manitoba Bisons in the semi-finals.

The Mitchell Bowl is scheduled for November 15 at 2:15 p.m. CST, where the Huskies will strive to continue their journey towards the Vanier Cup.
