Seth Rogen’s “The Studio” Dominates Emmy Nominations

Canadian actor Seth Rogen received three significant nominations at the 77th Primetime Emmy Award announcements in Los Angeles. His creation, the Apple TV+ comedy series “The Studio,” garnered a nomination for outstanding comedy series alongside other notable shows like “Abbott Elementary,” “The Bear,” “Hacks,” and more.

Rogen himself was nominated for outstanding performance in a comedy series, competing against fellow actors such as Martin Short, Adam Brody, Jason Segel, and Jeremy Allen White. Additionally, Rogen secured nominations in the directing and writing categories for a comedy series.

“The Studio” revolves around a newly appointed head of a film studio, portrayed by Rogen, who seeks validation from Hollywood stars. With a total of 23 nominations, the show dominated the comedy categories, surpassing the previous record held by Apple TV+ series “Ted Lasso.”

In supporting roles, Kathryn Hahn, Catherine O’Hara, and Ike Barinholtz from “The Studio” received nominations. The series also featured notable guest performances, including film director Martin Scorsese’s first acting nomination as himself.

Severance, another Apple TV+ series, led the drama categories with 27 nominations. The show, starring Adam Scott and Britt Lower, earned nods for outstanding drama series and lead actor and actress.

Competing against shows like “Andor,” “The Last of Us,” and “The White Lotus,” Severance faces stiff competition in the outstanding drama series category. Notable acting nominations from Severance include Quebec’s Jessica Lee Gagné for cinematography and directing.

The limited series category saw HBO’s “The Penguin” garnering 24 nominations, with actor Colin Farrell receiving nods for producing and best lead actor. The series faces strong competition from popular shows like “Adolescence” and “Monsters: The Lyle and Erik Menendez Story.”

Unluckily, past favorites like “The Handmaid’s Tale,” “Squid Game,” and new series “Four Seasons” received minimal recognition this year. Despite this, the Emmy nominations promise an exciting lineup of contenders across various genres.

The 77th Primetime Emmy Awards ceremony is scheduled to air on CBS, with host Nate Bargatze, from the Peacock Theater in Los Angeles on Sunday, September 14.
