A flight originating from South Korea bound for New York had to make an unexpected stop in Winnipeg early Wednesday. One passenger was hospitalized, while the rest were kept quarantined on the aircraft. The Asiana Airlines flight was on its way from Seoul before being redirected over northern Ontario and eventually landing in Winnipeg at 6:30 a.m.
The plane remained grounded at Winnipeg’s international airport for close to four hours before resuming its journey. Authorities initially isolated the aircraft due to concerns about a potentially contagious condition, as mentioned by a provincial government representative in an email statement. The hospitalized passenger was taken to St. Boniface Hospital and placed in a specialized containment area, which they have since been moved out of. The spokesperson reassured that all necessary precautions were implemented and there is no threat to public health.
