Stellantis has announced a global recall of more than 1.3 million Jeep SUVs and trucks due to fire safety concerns. The company is advising owners to park their vehicles away from structures or other cars until the necessary repairs are made.
The recall affects Jeep Wrangler and Jeep Gladiator trucks from the model years 2021-2025. The issue stems from a potential electrical connection problem in the electric hydraulic power steering pump wiring. In rare cases, this issue could cause combustible materials to overheat, posing a risk of vehicle fires.
Approximately 1.08 million vehicles in the United States, 106,000 in Canada, 23,000 in Mexico, and 125,000 in other global markets are included in the recall. Stellantis has stated that the recall will involve inspecting and potentially repairing or replacing the wiring harness or electric hydraulic power steering pump.
The company is actively working to expedite the availability of remedies and expects to have a fix in place no later than July. While Stellantis has received reports of one injury related to this issue, there have been no reported crashes or fatalities associated with it.
