The upcoming live-action adaptation of the beloved Nintendo game, “The Legend of Zelda,” made headlines with the announcement of its lead actors and a revised release date on Wednesday.
Shigeru Miyamoto, Nintendo’s representative director and acclaimed video game designer, unveiled the casting details on X. The iconic character Link will be portrayed by Benjamin Evan Ainsworth, a talented English actor, while the role of Princess Zelda will be played by the English actress Bo Bragason.
The film is based on the classic 1986 Nintendo game set in the enchanting realm of Hyrule, where Link and Zelda unite to combat the malevolent Ganon.
Ainsworth is recognized for his performances as Mark Critch in the Canadian comedy series “Son of a Critch,” as well as roles in “The Haunting of Bly Manor,” “Flora & Ulysses,” and as the voice of Pinocchio in Disney’s live-action adaptation.
Bragason’s notable appearances include portraying Roxy Trotter in Disney’s “Renegade Nell” and roles in BBC One series such as “The Jetty” and “Three Girls.”
Miyamoto expressed his anticipation for the on-screen chemistry of the lead actors, affirming their roles in the film. The scheduled release date was moved to May 7, 2027, after an initial delay from its original March 26, 2027, announcement by Nintendo.
The film project is a collaboration with Sony Pictures Entertainment Inc., with Wes Ball, the director of “Kingdom of the Planet of the Apes,” at the helm. Miyamoto is producing the film alongside Avi Arad, a prominent studio executive and the former CEO of Marvel Studios.
