“The Tragically Hip’s Final Concert Broadcast Set for CBC Airing”

After a ten-year hiatus, The Tragically Hip is preparing to showcase the 2016 broadcast of their final Man Machine Poem concert for Canadian fans through a special airing on CBC this summer.

Scheduled for August 22, viewers can tune in to The Tragically Hip: A National Celebration concert at 7 p.m. local time (8 p.m. AT/ 8:30 NT) on CBC TV. The broadcast will also be available at 7 p.m. local time on CBC Radio One (7:30 NT/AT) and CBC Music (7:30 NT). Additionally, fans can catch the show at 7 p.m. ET on CBC Gem and CBC Music’s YouTube channel, as well as on SiriusXM’s CBC, The Tragically Hip, Iceberg, and Canada Talks channels.

To ensure widespread access, communities have the option to organize public screenings by signing up here.

The original concert, held in the band’s hometown of Kingston, Ontario, on August 20, 2016, was watched by 11.7 million viewers when it aired on CBC. This concert marked the conclusion of The Hip’s final tour before the passing of lead singer Gord Downie on October 17, 2017, due to brain cancer.

In conjunction with the event, the band will release a new live album, The Tragically Hip: Live July 22 – August 20, 2016, on August 21. The album, mixed and mastered by the band’s longtime audio engineer Mark Vreeken, will include live recordings of popular tracks like Ahead By a Century and New Orleans is Sinking from their last nationwide tour.

Already available are live renditions of Fifty-Mission Cap from the Edmonton recording and Locked In The Trunk Of A Car from the final Kingston performance.

Looking ahead, The Tragically Hip is set to be inducted into the Canadian Songwriters Hall of Fame at Toronto’s Massey Hall in September.
