“Unidentified Drones Disrupt Copenhagen Airport, Suspected Russian Involvement”

Unidentified drones disrupted operations at Copenhagen’s airport on Monday night, raising suspicions of possible Russian involvement in the airspace intrusion over Scandinavia’s largest airport. The drones, numbering between two to three, caused a significant disruption to air traffic before disappearing after several hours. Authorities clarified that there was no apparent intention to cause harm.

While the perpetrators remain unknown, Danish Prime Minister and NATO’s Secretary-General did not rule out the possibility of Russian interference. Denmark, already on high alert due to its proximity to Russia, will participate in discussions with other frontline countries to address the European Union’s proposed “drone wall.”

Describing the incident as the “most serious attack on Danish critical infrastructure to date,” Prime Minister Mette Frederiksen expressed concerns over the security breach. NATO Secretary-General Mark Rutte hesitated to attribute blame to Russia at this early stage, contrasting Kremlin spokesperson Dmitry Peskov’s dismissal of the accusations.

Authorities refrained from using force against the drones due to the potential risks posed by the airport’s crowded environment. Jes Jespersen, senior police inspector, characterized the drone operators as skilled individuals showcasing their abilities rather than posing a direct threat. The drones exhibited various light patterns and flight maneuvers, suggesting a display of capabilities.

The drones traversed several kilometers to reach the airport, prompting investigations into their mode of transportation. Flight operations resumed the following day, although delays and cancellations persisted. This incident follows previous drone disruptions at London’s Gatwick Airport, emphasizing the need for enhanced security measures in response to evolving threats.

Security concerns in northern Europe have escalated amid heightened Russian aggression. Following recent airspace violations, NATO issued a stern warning to Russia, emphasizing its commitment to safeguarding European borders and security interests. The incident in Poland marked a significant escalation in tensions between NATO and Moscow since Russia’s military campaign in Ukraine, underscoring the ongoing challenges to regional security.
