“Wildfire Forces Immediate Evacuation in Lethbridge”

Residents in the Bayview area of Lethbridge, Newfoundland and Labrador, have been ordered to evacuate immediately due to a fire near Sexton Lumber sawmill on Route 233, according to an RCMP media release. Premier John Hogan announced on social media that residents from Oldford’s Hill to Southwest Bridge and Forest Drive are also being asked to evacuate, with Anthony Paddon Elementary serving as the designated evacuation center. RCMP and Ground Search and Rescue are currently onsite, managing the situation. Route 233 is closed to all traffic, and residents are urged to cooperate with first responders’ instructions. The Department of Forestry, local fire department, and Triple Bay Eagles Ground Search and Rescue are all involved in the emergency response efforts. Lethbridge resident Kayla Dillon, who evacuated with her family and pets, described the fire as approximately 1.5 kilometers away from her home. She expressed fear and anxiety, emphasizing the rapid escalation of the situation and the need for quick action. Dillon highlighted the importance of spacing between homes and wooded areas for protection against the advancing fire.
