Family of Ottawa High School Shooting Victim Prepares Memorial

The family of a student who tragically lost his life in a high school shooting in Ottawa is preparing to commemorate the upcoming 50th anniversary of his death. Mark Hough, who was killed at St. Pius X High School in 1975, will be remembered by his family at a special wooden bench dedicated to him along Ottawa’s Rideau Canal.

The shooting incident, which occurred during a packed religion class, resulted in several injuries and three fatalities, including Hough’s. Despite surviving the initial attack, Hough passed away in the hospital over a month later.

As the anniversary approaches, Hough’s family members, along with his classmates and friends, have come together to reflect on the tragic event. They have shared their memories and experiences in a series exploring the lasting impact of the school shooting.

The family believes it is time to move forward from the grief and tragedy of that fateful day. They plan to gather at the memorial bench not in sorrow but in loving remembrance of Mark Hough’s life, aiming to celebrate him and leave the painful memories behind.
