Ontario Provincial Police have announced the arrest of a man from British Columbia in connection with a series of violent sexual assaults that occurred nearly 30 years ago in southwestern Ontario. The OPP revealed that Jason Timothy Davidson, aged 52 and a resident of Campbell River, faces 15 charges, including aggravated sexual assault, kidnapping, forcible confinement, and uttering threats. The arrests are the result of Project Aerial, a collaborative investigation with the Sarnia police.
The assaults took place between March and August 1997 in Lambton County, Kent County, and the City of Sarnia, with three out of the four victims being minors at the time. The incidents involved the abduction and sexual assault of victims in various locations, with the assailant fleeing the scene after each attack.
Detective Inspector Michael Moore, who oversaw Project Aerial for the OPP’s Criminal Investigation Branch, highlighted that the cases were initially handled separately by local law enforcement agencies but commonalities eventually emerged. The suspect, described as a white man in his 30s with specific physical features, was linked to all four assaults through advanced DNA analysis techniques.
Jason Timothy Davidson was apprehended in Campbell River with the assistance of the RCMP and Vancouver police before being brought back to Ontario. The arrest is considered a significant breakthrough in a long-standing investigation, providing a sense of closure to the survivors and their families.
