Netflix Canada has announced the upcoming adaptation of another popular romance novel by Carley Fortune. The streaming platform has greenlit a 10-episode series based on the third book by the Canadian author, titled “This Summer Will Be Different.”
The novel follows Lucy as she spends a summer on Prince Edward Island and has a fateful encounter with Felix, igniting intense chemistry between them. The twist? Felix happens to be the younger brother of Lucy’s best friend, Bridget. Despite their connection, Lucy resolves to steer clear of Felix and his advances during her annual visits to P.E.I.
When Bridget faces a crisis just before her wedding, Lucy accompanies her back to the island, grappling with her emotions and questioning whether she should guard her heart or embrace the possibility of love.
The TV adaptation will be filmed in Toronto and on Prince Edward Island, staying true to the book’s picturesque settings. Carley Fortune, the Toronto-based writer and journalist, expressed her excitement about bringing the love story to life on screen, drawing inspiration from her own experiences on the island.
Fortune, known for her novels “One Golden Summer,” “Every Summer After,” and “Meet Me at the Lake,” is set to release her latest book, “Our Perfect Storm,” on May 5th. Additionally, “Every Summer After” is currently in production for a television series titled “Every Year After” on Amazon Prime Video, while “Meet Me at the Lake” has been optioned for a film by Netflix and Archewell Productions, owned by Prince Harry and Meghan Markle.
Moreover, “Meet Me at the Lake” made history as the first romance title to compete in Canada Reads, championed in 2024 by Mirian Njoh. This latest project adds to Fortune’s growing list of achievements in the world of romantic fiction.
